Wondering What I’ll Find as I Wander Through the Woods

Though I haven’t done it in awhile, I love to take walks in the woods. While making my way along, wondering what I’ll find, I begin to feel less stressed, relaxing as I enjoy the fresh air and beauty surrounding me. There's something about the outdoors that calls to me. Click To Tweet I am blessed to live beside a woodland area with a variety of plants, trees and wildlife.

Wondering as I Wander in the Woods

Wondering as I Wander

Wandering through the woods
I wonder what I’ll see
A squirrel racing up a tree
Or birds twittering with glee

Maybe there will be a snake
Slithering across the ground
While hardly making any sound
He should watch out for the hound

Fallen leaves, broken limbs
What is that peeking through
I almost smashed it with my shoe
Tiny flower dressed in blue

Wandering through the woods
I wonder what I’ll find
A treasure someone left behind
Or a calm place to unwind

Everyone Needs Time Alone

We all need alone time without distractions. In our busy world it seems we don’t have time to stop, because of all the demands. We push ourselves from one thing to another hardly stopping to think. What if we made it a priority to pause at times during the day if only for a few seconds? Click To TweetWe can’t all drop everything and go into the woods for an extended time of quiet and contemplation. Most don’t have the means or the time to do that very often, much less every day.

Pause for Short Times During the Day

What is stopping us from taking a few minutes a day or even several times a day to stop what we are doing and say a quick prayer? We can thank God for life or we can send up a quick prayer for help. Whatever our situation, we need time for pause during our busy days. Click To Tweet It helps immensely to step away for a minute and refocus. If there is time, a quick walk outdoors in the fresh air can be a healing balm enabling us to get back to work with renewed vigor.

Even Jesus set aside time alone to pray to His Father God. In Mark 1:35 we read:

Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.

What about you? Are there certain practices that help you pause during the day? What do you do when you feel the need to get away for some time of contemplation? Click To Tweet

My daughter, Jamie Bagley, has something to aid you in finding times of pause during the day. A collection of poetry/prayers, her Book of Hours: In Shadow and Sun can be found for Kindle at Amazon.

My poem above was inspired by a lesson in Jamie’s free poetry e-course found HERE on her website.

Breezes, Sunshine, Waves and Sand: Poetry from the Beach

Earlier this month my husband and I had a short but lovely vacation in Florida with some of his siblings. The sun, the waves, the sand, the breezes that were both mild and strong, the blue sky and white clouds – all worked together to bring refreshment and reduce stress.

Weekly Haiku Challenge

The prompt words chosen for Ronovan Writes #weeklyhaikuchallenge are Breeze & Blow. How fitting for some haiku about the beach!

Sand beneath my feet

Water rushing to and fro

Constant breezes blow
                                                                                                                                         gayl wright

We took walks on the beach, the soft sand making a cushion beneath our feet. Wading along the edge we let the water come over our feet, then felt the sand pulling away as the water receded.

Breezes

A beautiful day
Clouds blow by and waves roll in
Soft breeze cools my face

                                                                                                      ~ gayl wright

On the beach I sit
Breezes blow in from the sea
Sand gets in my hair

                                                                                                ~ gayl wright

On our last day, even though the winds were strong we braved them anyway and walked along the beach. Click To Tweet

Inspiration and Refreshment

My sister-in-law and her husband decided to sit down for awhile. She was the inspiration for the last haiku, as she found sand in her hair upon returning to the condo.

I hope you were able to relax and find a bit of refreshment here through the poems and photos. The beach can be a nice place to relax or exercise. Maybe I like it so much because it is different from what I see every day.Sometimes a change of scenery can work wonders to lift our spirits. Friends Are People Who Love You No Matter What Happens

One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. (Proverbs 18:24 NIV)

Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
(John 15:13 NIV)

friends

Friend is the Five Minute Friday word for this week. True friends are gifts and sometimes rare in this day and age. Jesus is the perfect example of a true friend. Click To TweetHe made the ultimate sacrifice by giving His life for you and me. That kind of love is immeasurable.

Most of us will not be asked to give our lives for our friends, but often we may make sacrifices to help them. We might bring a meal to a family who has been sick. Maybe we offer to babysit to give parents a needed date night.

There are many ways to show friendship. Click To Tweet One of the most important ways is just to be there for someone else. Sometimes we don’t even have to talk. Just the presence of another person who loves and cares can do wonders to lift the spirits of another.

Showing love and listening are also things that good friends do. A friend is someone we can count on no matter what happens.

Long time friends – photo taken a year ago

(John15:9-15)

My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.

Spring Rains Encourage Growth, Beauty and Refreshment

Spring has not quite arrived, though it is very close. Click To Tweet
As I relax in my living room I hear the comforting sound of raindrops steadily falling.
This evening I spent some time with the online Nature Magnetic Poetry kit. Listening to the rain my thoughts were naturally drawn to words that might relate.

Refreshing Spring Rain

Spring rain softly falling
leaves earth pure and fresh

Squirrels wander about on
mossy forest boughs
as vine tendrils thrive
along wet tree trunks

I follow a covered path
where wild flowers shine
with beautiful vivid blooms

My soul grows full of love
At peace I breathe and relax

                                                             ~gayl wright

spring rain

Zechariah 10:1 (NIV)

Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime;
it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms.
He gives showers of rain to all people,
and plants of the field to everyone.

It is the Lord who sends rain to water the earth and bring refreshment. May He give us rest and peace and enable us to bring refreshment to those we meet on this journey of life.May God water our souls with the rain of His mercy and grace. Click To Tweet

So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today—to love the Lord your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul—then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and olive oil. I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied. (Deuteronomy 11:13-15 NIV)
