HEAL OUR BROKEN HEARTS
Heal is the #FiveMinuteFriday word for this week. I wrote a poem asking God to heal our broken hearts. Since I was busy Thursday night I almost missed the #fmfparty on Twitter. I arrived late, but had plenty of time to engage in conversation. Join us Thursday nights at 8:30 on Twitter for the #fmfparty! It’s a lot of fun and a great way to get to know each other a little better.
In our family we still have trials as I’m sure many others are experiencing, too. I thought about the suffering and pain people deal with daily. Late Friday evening I wrote this prayer of lament for God to heal our broken hearts.
HEAL OUR BROKEN HEARTS, OH GOD
Oh Lord, my God
My soul cries out to you
So many are in pain
Suffering is everywhere
Someone we trusted
deceived and caused hurt
Hearts are broken
Lives are disrupted
Children cry and mourn
Mothers are tired
Fathers weep for love
Brothers and sisters cry out
Oh Lord, my God
Please hear our prayer
Show your mercy and love
Heal our hearts and minds
Draw near to us, Oh God
You are the only One who
cared enough to die so that
we could live forever.

Enjoy this song by John Michael Talbot – “Healer of My Soul.”
I’m linking up with #FiveMinuteFriday, #SittingAmongFriends, #inspirememonday
Looking forward to listening to the song — I love John Michael Talbot (which I suppose dates me). Thank you for adding your voice to the words of lament that have been offered up to God for centuries.
The song is so comforting and calming. He is one of my favorite artists. Have you heard the album he and Michael Card do together? It’s called “Brother to Brother.” I love it!
Thanks for visiting and for your encouragement, Michele. Many blessings to you!
Beautiful! Reminds me of the song “Lord, listen to your children praying!” I’m over in the 59 spot this week.
Thank you, Tara. Are you referring to the song by Ken Medema or is there another song by that name?
So glad you stopped by, Tara. Many blessings to you!
What a beautiful prayer! Thank you for sharing this with us! Visiting from FMF! I had a completely different take on it — but I appreciate the reminder that the true healing must happen in all our hearts and minds and lives! Beautiful!
Thank you, Carey! I’m glad you stopped by. I’ll have to drop by your place and read your thoughts on the prompt. 🙂
Blessings to you!
Gayl, what a lovely prayer! And thank you for the song; I had not heard it before.
Thank you, Andrew! I guess the song is older, but I love it. He has so many good ones.
Many blessings to you and Barbara!
Beautiful song but even more beautiful words. We all experience heartache, pain and challenges and for those of us who are believers, we hold onto the hope that we find in God. Thank you for pouring out your heart and sharing it with all of us.
Thank you, Mary! I share my prayers sometimes because I think others may be able to identify, too, and know they are not alone.
Many blessings to you, dear sister!
I’m sorry you are going though a painful time. What a wonderful Savior that we can go to Him, lean on Him, trust in Him through it all.
Thank you for your concern, Elizabeth. I’m so glad we have a God who knows our pain and is with us through it. Many blessings to you!
Gayl, this is a beautiful prayer! Different circumstances, but I can pray it for myself as well. Thank you. (visiting from Moments of Hope today)
Thank you, Laura! I’m glad it’s a prayer you can also use as it really can apply to whatever circumstances we are in.
Blessings to you!
Beautiful words of lament, Gayl. My heart has felt these words too and I say Amen.
Thank you so much, Debby! It’s hard to go through some of the events in our lives, but I’m so thankful that God hears our prayers and is always with us.
Blessings to you! Thanks for stopping by. 🙂
Beautiful poem!
Thank you, Lydia! Many blessings to you!
Your poetry is touching. It’s so appropriate with everything going on in the world right now. Disaster everywhere and yet we need God to “heal our hearts and minds”. Thank you for sharing! Coming to you from the purposeful faith link up.
Thank you, Leah. God is faithful, isn’t He? We can take comfort in Him, knowing that He will accomplish His purposes. We desperately need Him.
Blessings to you and thanks for stopping by. 🙂
I pray for healing every day from my chronic illness. I will be praying what you wrote in this poem!! So beautiful, dear friend. Thanks for sharing!
Oh, Lauren, I’m so sorry you deal with a chronic illness. That’s so hard. I pray that God would touch you and bring you comfort and relief.
Thank you for your kind words. Many blessings to you, dear Lauren.
Pretty poetry Gayle! I’ve never done FMF but it sounds like an awesome challenge. My heart breaks for all the healing needed in this world – hurt is everywhere we look. Sometimes it feels like there aren’t enough minutes in a day to intercede for all of the requests, but there’s comfort in my remembering that He already knows. Have a great week and I’m so happy we’re neighbors today:)
Thank you, Meg! FMF is really a fun thing to do. We’d love to have you check it out and join us! The twitter party moves pretty fast sometimes, but it’s ok to just watch and read and join in if and when you want.
Yes, there is comfort in knowing that God knows and sees all. He will make sure His purposes will be accomplished in this world.
Thanks for visiting! Blessings to you!
This was absolutely beautiful, Gayl. It sounds as though it’s straight out of the Book of Psalms. Thank you for putting into words what so many people experience.
Thank you so much, Shelly! I know there are a lot of people hurting and I wanted to share my prayer/poem.
I love the Psalms and I know many of them could be used in prayer when we can’t think of our own words.
Blessings to you!
Just lovely, Gayl, and happy/blessed anniversary!
Thank you, Susan, on both counts. 🙂 Can’t wait to see you Saturday!
Thank you, Gayl, for this beautiful hope-filled prayer. The world is in pain and we need to pray! And thank you for being such a blessing at #MomentsofHope!
Blessings and smiles,
Lori
Lori, thank you for your encouragement! Yes, we do need to pray fervently. I’m so glad to link up with you at #MomentsofHope!
Many blessings to you! Thanks for the smiles! It actually made me smile. 🙂
Thank you for sharing this heartfelt prayer and encouraging us to lift up our eyes to the Lord, our Strong Tower and Deliverer, when healing is sought after.
Thanks for your encouragement, Karen! Yes, the Lord is our “Strong Tower and Deliverer!”
Many blessings to you, dear sister!

Beautifl poem, Gayl. Only God can make this nation great again and heal our corporate and individual pain.
