Weekend Mindset Doesn’t Work for Weekdays

WEEKEND MINDSET

Do you have a weekend mindset? The weekend is almost upon us, if you consider weekend to be from Friday night through Sunday. When I was a kid I really looked forward to the weekend, because it meant no school. The #5MFW word for today is weekend.

The funny thing is when I was younger my brothers and I would often get up even earlier on Saturdays than we did on school days. Saturday always seemed like such a long day but with plenty of time to play. Of course there were also chores.

Nowadays with my husband retired the weekend doesn’t seem much different than the other days of the week. The only difference is that we go to church on Sundays. So everyday we could slip into a weekend mindset, if we aren’t careful.

We stay up way too late at night watching something on Netflix. Then it is hard to wake up the next morning so we sleep late. It becomes a habit that feels like we’re stuck in a rut and can’t get out. That kind of schedule is not conducive to a healthy lifestyle.

A ROUTINE CAN HELP

I have heard that humans function better when we do have some sort of routine. Since my husband is retired we need a relaxed schedule. It allows for changes but still keeps us on track. It should include a balance of rest, work and leisure.

We do not have that as yet, but I want to make it a reality. This is one reason I chose 31 Days to a Healthier Lifestyle as my theme for #write31days. We are nearing the end of the third week of this series.

Maybe we can get out of our weekend mindset and establish some good routines.. Maybe we can get out of our weekend mentality and establish some good routines to help with all areas of life.

My new habits of morning devotions, exercise and drinking plenty of water are well on the way. Now I will concentrate on finishing well by adding menu planning and a working schedule by the end of the month.

Our upcoming weekend is special as our oldest daughter and kids are coming after school on Friday. We are making pizza for supper and then face pancakes for breakfast on Saturday. I love spending extra time with family!

Do you have any fun plans for the weekend?

  1. Hi Gayl, I loved your autumn walk photos! I know what you mean about finding a routine that is healthy and workable also. When my husband is home on vacation sometimes it feels like the whole applecart is upset! 🙂 Glad that God is here to help us even with our routines! Have a wonderful weekend with your family! –Blessings to you!

    1. Thank you, Bettie. When I took my walk I wanted to sit on the hillside for awhile, but it was too warm even in the shade. We had temperatures in the eighties today! Hopefully cooler weather will be here soon.

Yes, I’m glad God helps with our routines, too! Thank you for your continued encouragement, Bettie.

      Many blessings to you!

  2. Thank you for these words. Something to think about since I am retired. It’s easy to go through my days without any real purpose but God desires for us to honor him throughout. Happy weekend!

    1. Yes, it’s a struggle when you don’t have to be anywhere at a certain time every day, and it’s easy to lose purpose. But you’re right, God still wants us to honor him in all we do.

Thanks for visiting and I’m glad my words were helpful. Many blessings to you, Mary!

    1. Thanks, Karen. I definitely struggle with getting out of the “weekend mentality.”

Blessings to you! Thank you for stopping by and for your encouragement.

  3. My favorite weekends are the ones in which there are NO plans! I’m sure you recall the days of multiple children and multiple schedules. We’re still there most of the time, but I’m happy to report that tomorrow I think I can sleep until 6:00! Hooray! Glad to hear that you are making progress with your healthy habits.

    1. Yes, no plan weekends are the best when you can just relax and do nothing if you need to. 🙂 When you say sleep until 6:00 does that mean you usually get up earlier??? When I stay with oldest daughter she sets her alarm for 5:00, so earlier this week I was getting up quite early. At home I don’t really have to be up at any particular time, but that is one reason why I want to give myself a schedule.

Thanks for being here, Michele. Always good to hear from you! Your encouragement is appreciated! Blessings to you!
