Earlier this month my husband and I had a short but lovely vacation in Florida with some of his siblings. The sun, the waves, the sand, the breezes that were both mild and strong, the blue sky and white clouds – all worked together to bring refreshment and reduce stress.
Weekly Haiku Challenge
The prompt words chosen for Ronovan Writes #weeklyhaikuchallenge are Breeze & Blow. How fitting for some haiku about the beach!
Sand beneath my feet
Water rushing to and fro
Constant breezes blow
gayl wright
We took walks on the beach, the soft sand making a cushion beneath our feet. Wading along the edge we let the water come over our feet, then felt the sand pulling away as the water receded.
A beautiful day
Clouds blow by and waves roll in
Soft breeze cools my face
~ gayl wright
On the beach I sit
Breezes blow in from the sea
Sand gets in my hair
~ gayl wright
On our last day, even though the winds were strong we braved them anyway and walked along the beach.
Inspiration and Refreshment
My sister-in-law and her husband decided to sit down for awhile. She was the inspiration for the last haiku, as she found sand in her hair upon returning to the condo.
I hope you were able to relax and find a bit of refreshment here through the poems and photos. The beach can be a nice place to relax or exercise. Maybe I like it so much because it is different from what I see every day. Sometimes a change of scenery can work wonders to lift our spirits.
If you could travel anywhere you wanted to go, where would you choose?
If you’d like to add your own haiku or read what others have written check out Ronovan Writes.

Oh, I love the beach. These poems are wonderful. We have gone to Fl every year for a long time but, haven’t gone these last two years and I miss it. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Sherry! We have gone every year for the past few years to have a sort of reunion with my husband’s siblings. It’s always a refreshing time. Glad you stopped by!
Blessings to you!
Beautiful pictures!
My daughter has been yelling US lately 😉
If the Lord wills…
How are you friend?
God Bless
Thank you, dear Ifeoma! If you ever come to the US I hope it will be where I can meet you. 🙂 I am doing well but tired. Lots to do, but I’m finding time to rest, too.
How are you! So good to hear from you. May God continue to bless you as you bless others with your life and words!
Love and hugs! xoxo
I love going to the beach with my mom, but I’d love to visit Iceland with my husband. 🙂
Thanks for linking up at Literacy Musing Mondays!
ooh, Iceland sounds like an intriguing place to visit! I’d love to visit Scotland and Ireland.
Thanks for visiting! Blessings to you, Brandi!
I love to go anywhere near the water with few people to commune with the Lord- streams in the mountains – the ocean – a lake .
Yes, I love to go when there are fewer people. It was kind of crowded this year where we were. But it can be a beautiful time with the Lord when it is uncrowded.
Thanks for visiting, Naomi. Blessings to you!
Dear Gayl,
What beautiful images and poetry to match! I think I would have been with your sister-in-law, sitting there and finding sand in my hair later. There’s just something so calming to watch those waves and the sparkling water. Thank you for sharing more beauty from your recent trip! Love and Hugs to you, my dear poet/sister/friend! xoxo
Bettie, thank you! I agree with you about the calming effect of the waves and sparkling water. I love to sit out there and watch and listen when I do get the chance.
Glad you enjoyed the poems and photos! Thank you for visiting and for being such an encouraging friend.
Much love to you, my dear sister/poet/friend! Blessings to you, too! xoxo
I love the beach and your vacation looked like a wonderful respite. There is something so refreshing about the waves, sand and water. God is good to provide such beauty for us. Thank you for words that uplift.
Thanks for visiting, Mary! It was a good vacation, and I agree about how the waves, sand and water are refreshing. There is so much beauty on this earth. I pray that God will open our eyes to see it.
Many blessings to you, dear Mary!
Oh, how I love this!!! xoxo
Oh, I’m so glad you love it, Karrilee! Blessings to you! xoxo
There is something so holy about feeling the sand through my toes.
Yes, I love to walk along the beach feeling the sand through my toes. I love to have my feet in contact with the earth. There is a kind of healing there.
Blessings to you!
I hope your trip to FL was as much a balm to your souls as ours was to ours!!!
It was a refreshing trip but we stayed pretty busy with family get-togethers. I wish it could have been longer, but I am very thankful for the time we had. 🙂
Blessings! xo
Beautiful pictures and I loved the poems too. Both haiku have great imagery. I can’t wait for beach weather. 🙂 xx
So glad you enjoyed them, Vashti! Wish I lived a bit closer to the beach so I could enjoy it more often. 🙂
Blessings to you!
Thank you. <3
Thank you, Gayl, for the refreshing poems, thoughts, and photos. I love the beach, but I don’t get the privilege very often. I love walking in the sand with bare feet and hearing the waves crash against the shore. The sights and sounds are awesome, so thank you for giving me a taste of it in your photos and poems. 🙂 Love and hugs to you!
Thank you, Trudy, for your encouragement. I’m so glad you found my work refreshing and that it gave you a tiny taste of a lovely place.
Blessings, love and hugs to you! xo
You visited my part of the world! Isn’t it wonderful? Happy to have you sharing at Fresh Market Friday:)
Yes, Crystal, we had a wonderful, refreshing time!
Blessings to you!
Gayl – great pictures and beautiful poetry as always. the beach is my happy, safe place.. it is where I like to rest and refresh – watching the waves crash, and come and go bring such a sense of God’s awesome power and His vast plans. Sounds like your vacation was grand! Where would I travel right now if I could? either somewhere sunny (but not too warm) with blue water and beaches… or Europe to see the castles and visit historical sights — maybe Scotland, or Ireland??? thanks for linking up with #TuneInThursday this week. Sorry for my delay in stopping by, it has been a busy week 🙂
Thanks, Debbie! I appreciate your encouragement. 🙂 Oh, I would love to travel to Europe, esp. Scotland and Ireland, but I also have friends in other places there so it would be cool to take a trip to meet them. 🙂
Thank you for stopping by and for hosting the linkup!
Blessings to you! xo
I love how your change of scenery inspired your creativity, Gayl! Your words make me miss the sand beneath my toes. Been too long since I’ve had a beach day.
((Hugs))
Thank you, Crystal! Maybe you can take a beach day soon! 🙂
Blessings and hugs! xo
I’d love to see Niagara Falls and Victoria Falls. I also would like to go to Ireland someday. I do love the beach, though, and I love your haiku! You’re quite talented! Thanks for sharing your poetry with us!
Blessings! 🙂
I was really close to Niagara Falls one time, but it was the middle of winter and we didn’t have time to stop. It must be beautiful to see, though.
Thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you like the haiku. 😉 Thank you for your encouragement, Ruth. Blessings to you!
