This weekend I participated in an online retreat for a writer’s group I belong to on Facebook. In one of the sessions we had about fifteen minutes to write on a topic of our choice. I wrote about varied colors like rainbows. This morning I turned it into a poem.

As always with poetry there is more than just the surface meanings. Each of us may come away with something different. I hope you enjoy!
Rainbows of Colors
Rainbow of colors
Light and dark
A place for all
Green is for growing
All our lives
At our own pace

Yellow is cheery
Brings us light
Makes me happy
Red is so lovely
Like a rose
Brings joy and pain

Black is beautiful
Dark as night
Contrasts the light
Blue is sky and sea
Calm or wild
Cool refreshment

Orange is juicy
Clean and fresh
Full of delight
Many more colors
Room for all
Rainbows of joy
I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’d like to share in the comments. [bctt tweet=”Maybe try writing your own poem about colors!” username=”GaylWright”]

Dear Gayl,
What beautiful thoughts about colors! I love the way that you find so many different feelings associated with each one. This sounds like it was such a fun activity, that really made everyone stop and think about how color affects us. And yet, I was drawn into the unique way that each one of us brings our own thoughts about colors to those around us as well! I am always inspired when you share your beautiful poetry! Blessings to you dear friend! xoxo
Thanks, Bettie. You are always an encouragement to me when you visit. 🙂 It was a fun activity, and it’s interesting how we all came up with different things as we observed that jar of colored markers. Not everyone actually wrote about colors, though.
I’m so glad you visited and were inspired, dear Bettie! I hope you have a wonderful week full of blessings! Love and hugs! xoxo
So beautiful, Gayl. Both the poem and the photos. 🙂 Thank you. Love and hugs to you!
Thank you, dear Trudy! Blessings, love and hugs to you!

Colour definitely speaks to us in different ways, and I love where your poetic response to the activity has taken you, Gayl! It’s such a fun poem, with each colour singing out its unique vibrancy in your life. May you have an equally rainbow-bright week, dear friend! Blessings and hugs. xo <3
Thank you, Joy! I had fun writing it, too. 🙂 I wish you a lovely week, too. Sending you love and hugs!
Blessings on your week my dear sister/poet/friend! xoxo
Yellow is a happy color that it instantly brings cheer indeed.
Love how colors could affect us.
Yes, yellow is probably my favorite color! I, too, love how colors can affect us in so many ways!
Thanks for visiting. Blessings to you, Lux!
What a lovely idea for a writing prompt! 🙂 It is incredible how God has designed each and every different thing and person so uniquely ~ I love how you brought that out in your poem.
Thank you, Alicia! Yes, we are all so uniquely designed by a very creative God. 🙂
