Speak Hope Through Art and Poetry

The Five Minute Friday word this week is speakLately I have not written many blog posts, but that doesn’t mean I have been idle. With all that is going on in the world and in my life, I’m not always sure when to speak and when to keep silent.

I sometimes need time to think and process. Click To Tweet

One important way is to write poetry. I love creating haiku, but I also do free verse and rhyming. Art journaling is another way to help me process. Both provide a creative outlet for expressing thoughts and feelings. Today I want to let some of my art and poetry speak to you. I hope as you look and read that you will be refreshed and inspired.

Speak With Art

The first two photos are art journal pages inspired by prompts from an Instagram party #auggluebookparty17.  First prompt was a group of colors – silver or gray, blue and white. I made collages using words and photos from magazines and art supplies.

Speak inspiration
At home in the night inspiration surfaces…

This second piece came from a prompt asking the question What do you want more of before the summer ends? I extended it to a variety of things I would like more of in my life. Maybe you can identify with some of them, too.

Speak hope and beauty
More wisdom, strength, ideas, solutions…

Speak With Poetry

With the events in Charlottesville and others I sometimes don’t know what to say. That’s when I go to poetry. To write this one I used the online magnetic poetry kit. In another post using the online kit I write about family love.

Speak with poetry
I used Picmonkey to overlay the poem onto my photograph.

This is another collage which uses various materials that were available to me.

Speak with art.
Create, Soar, Capture the Moments..

When I share my work, I can often speak volumes without using a lot of words. Click To Tweet

As the art is observed and the poetry read, we each come away with our own impressions. By sharing I hope to encourage and inspire you to find your own ways to be creative. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section. 🙂

Love Must Always Be Our Song

When the world is dark
Cold winds wither my soul
Peace wanders off in the night

Watch and listen
Come as you are
With a quiet spirit

Breathe life and harmony
Into this wild season
Love must always be our song

  1. Your art and poetry are always so inspiring! I am hoping to join in for the September Glue-Book party! My daughter might be here that night, and she is eager to have a craft&art night together. And while I can’t do a lot of the crafty things I used to, there are still ways to let the Lord bring out His creativity! I think something special happens when we share our hearts and create together. Love and Hugs to you my sister/poet/friend! xoxo

  3. Love must always be our song – my favorite of the above offerings – so lately it’s been a dirge more than a song – but that drives me to pray for our nation more and that’s a good thing.

    1. I know what you mean about it seeming like a dirge more than a song, but it does help us remember to pray more, like you said. Thanks so much for visiting, Sue. And thanks for sharing your family’s websites. I will certainly go take a look! 🙂
      Blessings to you!

  4. I love how God wires us to express ourselves in such unique ways. And the arts is definitely a way in which that happens. Thanks, Gayl, for sharing your words and heart here and at #MomentsofHope!
