Hold to the Truth of God

HOLD TO THE TRUTH

Welcome to Days 7 and 8 of #write31days. The prompt words for the Five Minute Friday Free Writes are hold & truth. In this crazy world everyone needs someone or something to cling to. How do we know what is true and who to trust? Maybe we need a stronghold that will never fail. We need to hold to the truth of God.

Psalm 18:2 (NIV)

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Creation speaks of the glory of God, but it also shows His love, care and attention to detail.

Look at the beauty and intricacy of this flower and the spider web covered with droplets of water.

He, who made such beauty, also made us in His image. Satan may accuse and fill our heads with lies of how bad we are. It may seem like there is no hope, and we may entertain thoughts of giving up.

But the truth is, Jesus died to pay the penalty for all our sin.

He has done for us what we cannot do. He forgives when we confess, and we need to accept that forgiveness. Instead of berating ourselves, we need to let go of the past and move forward.

When I start to doubt I will remember that He cares. He is always with me to love, strengthen, forgive and protect. There is no place on earth where He cannot find me. I cannot hide, neither do I want to. God will hold me.

I will hold fast to this truth.

Psalm 139:7-10

Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

When I woke up this morning, my neck and shoulders were very tight and achy. Going to church was the plan, but my body was not cooperating. I needed more time to rest and recuperate. After reading the Bible, a devotion from The Invitations, and prayer, I went outside.

Going outdoors nearly always refreshes me and today was no exception. It was breezy and had been raining, but there was beauty. God again used His creation to remind me that I am not alone. I am only a small part of all creation, but God cares enough to give me rest.

Nature Bids Me Rest

Gentle breezes blow
Chimes ring out a lovely tune
Urging me to rest

I’ll heed the call for
Nature bids me come aside
Leave my cares behind

With closed eyes I sit
Soft breezes caress my face
I let out a sigh

Relaxation comes
As tensions begin to ease
I whisper a prayer

Thank you God for life
For beauty in creation
For your love and care

  1. Your photos are lovely – the dew in the spider’s web – just delightful! Psalm 18:2 is dear to my heart. About 30 something years ago I turned it into a song that I carry in my heart. There’s something about a poem that sets the intangibles in order- and yours does that with the idea of God refreshing us. Thank you for this delightful journey today!
