REFINING
Welcome to Day 30 of #write31days. Right now I’m a day behind. It has been quite a month of trying to keep up. Despite all the struggles and interruptions it was a lot of fun. Refine is the prompt word for Five Minute Friday Free Writes. In order to finish my haiku/photo book, my work will need refining.
Writing challenge ends
But now I must refine my
Photos and haiku
My original plan was to write one haiku a day with an accompanying photo. I started out with fairly short posts like this one, which included the following poem.
Gradually, some of my posts got a little longer as I included more reflections and thoughts. Here is one example, which included the poem in the photo below.
REFINING MY WORK
Now I have my work cut out for me. I need to look back over each one and choose what to use in the book. After that comes even more rigorous refining in order to have a finished product. Throughout the month of November I may ask for your help as I refine my work.
Thanks to all who have read along and encouraged me this month. May God bless!

Gayl, it has been wonderful following you. I loved the poems. So thankful. I tweeted today. Let me know if you need some help. Do you think my work is book worthy. Blessings Diana
Diana, Thanks so much! I’m so glad you have enjoyed my poems. Thank you for your encouragement! I will definitely be calling on friends to help me out as I try hard to put together this photo/haiku book that has been on my mind for a few years. I think your work during these 31 days has been great. I think having it all together in a book format would be lovely.
Blessings to you!
haiku is a disciplinary task – great job !
Thank you so much, Sue! It’s a challenge but also fun! Blessings to you!
Wonderful and encouraging words, Gayl! I am looking forward to seeing how the Lord will help you bring all of this together in the book format that He has in mind! I will be praying for you as you complete this month’s work, and then go forward with the refining. Blessings, love, and hugs to you! xoxo
Dear Bettie,
You have been such a lovely encourager this month! Thank you so much for your prayers, too. I have a big task in front of me, but I know God will help me as I trust His leading. Many blessings to you with hugs and much love! xoxo
I can’t to see what your book includes.
Oh, Tara, thank you! Now I really need to get to work. 🙂 Thanks for your encouragement! Blessings to you! xo
Gayl, I have loved all of the haiku you’ve shared for this series, (the top one here is stunning, by the way) and can appreciate how hard it might be to have to decide what does or doesn’t meet your requirements for the forthcoming book! May I suggest you don’t try to rush it if it makes you anxious? I became so overly concerned about the slowness of my work and an intended “end date” I had in mind, that God actually called me to lay it all aside for several months. Gulp!! However, the final refining and editing process was made a lot easier because I not only felt less stressed, I was also given a new title, extra material and a different configuration than I’d envisaged. All much better than before! You are assured of my continual prayer support and any practical help I can offer in tine to come. Blessings, love and hugs! xoxo
Joy, I’m so glad you’ve enjoyed my haiku! That means a lot. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support! Thank you for reminding me not to rush. I was first thinking I wanted to finish it as soon as possible as I could use it for Christmas gifts, but it will be better if I take my time and not rush for a deadline. If I get it done in time, that will be good, but if not, that’s okay, too. I’m really glad I didn’t rush to put it together a few years ago when I first thought of it. I’ve had much more practice now in writing and I’ve written many more haiku. Now I have quite a few to choose from. It will be a challenge to decided the final, but I want to enjoy the process. Thank you so much for your prayers and offer of help. I’ll probably be calling on you. 🙂 Blessings, love and hugs! xoxo
Wow, I’m looking forward to seeing this all come together for you!
Thanks so much, Michele. I hope it turns out well. It is a challenge, but I want to have fun. 🙂 Blessings to you! xo
Wow, Gayl this is awesome. You are such a talented writer and artist. I pray God leads you and please let me know if there’s anything I can help with.
Oh, Meghan, thanks so much for your encouragement and support! Your words bless me! Thanks also for your prayers and offers to help. I’ll let you know. 🙂 Blessings to you!
Congratuations Gayl! That is a wonderful accomplishment! I can’t wait to hear about your book and see your published work.
Thank you, Char! I need to plan out my work so I will be able to finish. I got the idea for the book three years ago , so I think maybe it’s time to follow through with it. Thanks for your encouragement!
Blessing to you!
