The Five Minute Friday word for the week is agree. From Rhymezone I found out that one of its synonyms is the word harmonize. I like that. It kind of shows that agreement doesn’t have to mean that everything is the same.

Agreement in Harmony

When there is harmony in music you hear a pleasing sound. The notes may not be in perfect agreement as far as sounding the same, but they blend together nicely. I think there may be a lesson for us in this example.

All to often we think that to agree with someone we need to have the same opinions. If we differ as far as ideas and goals it doesn’t mean we can’t agree.

Share Your Ideas

If we share our ideas with each other we can often harmonize in a way that makes the finished product better. Everyone can take part, dividing up responsibilities and showing a unified front.

Every tiny detail may not be agreed upon, but by using the unique talents of each one all the parts come together.

In other words we show agreement in our diversity. Click To Tweet

I Corinthians 12:12-14 (NIV)

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body,
so it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—
whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

  1. I love this analogy! I love to harmonize. Grew up being the one who found the third part in a family trio of Mom, Sis and me. Challenging yet so rewarding. Thanks for the reminder.

    1. Thank you, Karen! I’ve found myself the third part in many occasions and yes it’s challenging yet rewarding. 🙂 Blessings to you! xo

  2. Dear Gayl,
I love the thought of God bringing harmony between us. We are all singing HIS song, but we each have a unique voice that is so necessary to bring the fullness to the music. Blessings, Love and Hugs to you!

    1. Thank you, Bettie! I love how God uses each of us and brings us together with our unique talents and abilities. Blessings, love and hugs right back to you! xoxo

  3. My thoughts turned to harmony also. I like how you expanded your thoughts- “sharing ideas, unique talents, unified front.”

  4. I really enjoyed this Gayl and so true. We don’t have to agree on every point but if we work together and do our thing it makes a good and pleasing sound. Thank you!!

  5. Thanks for sharing this thought provoking post. I liked how you explained it by using the example of harmony in music. I never thought of it that way. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Karen! I wasn’t sure I was going to write a post because I couldn’t seem to think of anything, and then the idea of harmony in diversity came to me. 🙂 Blessings to you! Have a wonderful week!

  6. Each of us brings a different perspective to the table. this is what I like best about reading new blogs, so often I get a new perspective or a renewed one. Good post.

    1. Thank you, Betty! I enjoy reading new blogs, too. Even if the subject is the same, each blogger has their own unique perspective. I love learning from others and widening my understanding. Blessings to you!

  7. As a musician I love the link you make with harmony! It would be boring if we all played in unison. And often harmony involves notes clashing for a short time and then resolving. It’s a perfect illustration of how we may not always completely agree but we can make something beautiful if we work together.

    1. Yay, a fellow musician! Yes, sometimes there is clashing for a bit but the resolution is there when we are willing to work together. Thanks so much for your comments. Blessings to you!

  8. This is so true! I love how the body of Christ is a perfect picture of that. I mean, sometimes we fail as humans, but over all we see so many diverse people working together to build his kingdom and it’s only by God that we get that beautiful opportunity. ❤️

    1. Yes, we do fail at times, but collectively we do make progress in building His kingdom. I’m so glad God forgives us and uses us all together to bring about his purposes. And yes, it is only by God. Blessings to you! Thanks for visiting!

  9. I love harmony in music! It adds such pleasing tones to the melodic line. I think harmony takes something good and makes it rich and luxurious and beautiful!
