CAPTURE THE MOMENTS
Do you find yourself busy every day? Is it hard to take time to pause, to take a breather? Recently, I wrote about pausing each day, to relax, take notice of your surroundings and be refreshed. I want to learn to capture the moment whether working or relaxing.
I know we are all busy. Parents and children have end of the year programs to attend. Teachers are finishing up grading papers and projects, still trying to keep order in the classroom.
It might be tempting to try to hurry through everything hoping to find a break.
But what if instead of rushing through we could slow down and give our full attention to whatever we are doing? Maybe instead of running from one thing to the next we could look for the beauty in the moment. Instead of looking way ahead for a long break, why not take short breaks throughout the day?
Here’s a poem I finished recently hoping it reminds us to slow down, find the beauty and capture the moment.
Slow Down and Capture the Moment
Why are people running
Racing on so fast through life
to who knows what
Never stopping to see
beauty in a drop of rain
Why are people running
Charging as fast as they can
to get somewhere
Never stopping to see
beauty in a smiling face
Why are people running
Moving faster through each day
to reach some goal
Never stopping to see
beauty in a summer rose
Why are people always running
hurrying through their lives
Why not stop this running
Slow your steps so you can pause
to take a breath
Engage with heart and mind
Be present in the moment
Take time to watch the clouds
Feel the breeze soft on your skin
warmed by the sun
Rest along life’s journey
Search for beauty on the way

Oh Gayl this is just what I needed today! As we have a long day of appointments ahead of us, I pray that I will let the Lord show me HIS moments throughout the day. Glimpses that He has planned just for us to see His presence. Your photo of the sky filled with beautiful colors was so refreshing. And thank you for sharing your poem that speaks to my heart so much. Blessings, love and hugs to you dear friend!
Dear Bettie,
I’m so glad this has been encouraging to you. About that photo – I was sitting in my living room and I glanced out the window at the sky, so I had to go out and take pictures. 🙂 I hope you are able to capture some of the moments of your day. It blesses me to know that my poem spoke to you. Blessings, love and hugs to you, too, dear sister/poet/friend! xoxo
Gayl – I have such a busy week ahead. Thank you for the reminder to capture the moment.
Maree Dee, I hope your week goes well and you do find those moments to relax throughout the week and capture those special and even ordinary moments. Blessings to you!
Oh, this is a convicting post for the girl who tends to live her life at a dead run! I’m learning. And thanks to friends like you, I’m noticing the blue sky backdrop against fresh green leaves and the humming honeybees prospecting for gold among the lilacs.
Blessings to you, Gayl!
Dear Michele,
You encourage my heart and make me smile! I’m blessed to know you and so glad we met. Maybe it will happen again sometime. Blessings to you, too! xo
Yes – those big pauses come few and far between, but God graciously gives us little moments through the day. Thanks, Gayl!
Thanks for visiting, Barbara! Yes, and we need reminders to look for those little moments, right? Or at least I know I do. Blessings to you!

Seems like I’m always behind – does that mean I’m too busy or too slow? (: Thanks for your beautiful reminder this (busy but beautiful) day in CA!
Good question, Sue! 🙂 Blessings to you and remember to pause often for a break! xo
