Complete in Christ: Identity Not Based on Performance

Have you ever started a project only to set it aside for a time? Maybe something else caught your interest. Or maybe you just gave up.  Maybe, like me, you’ve started many projects only to leave them part finished. Do you sometimes feel like you will never complete anything? The Five Minute Friday word this week is complete.

Project Ideas

Years ago, I wanted to make a haiku/photo book, but I got bogged down. I tried to revive it last year but came to a standstill. Another project idea I have is to make a book of poems for a contest. I’ve only barely begun to categorize my poems. Making children’s books out of some of my rhyming poems is another desire of mine. I have chosen a few but need to have someone to illustrate them or do it myself.

Making note cards and greeting cards from some of my photos is something I’ve dabbled in, but have not tried to sell any yet. There are more projects I would like to pursue using my art. It would be great if I could see them to completion.

Complete in Christ

My identity is in Christ. I am complete in Him.

Colossians 2:8-10 (NKJV)

Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

I believe God has put these desires in me. One day I will learn what is needed for completing my projects. I’m learning that I need to ask questions and do research. Others have the knowledge I don’t have and can show me the next step. We were not meant to do life alone but need each other.

Proverbs 15:22

Plans fail when there is no counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.

  1. I agree, it is easy to start with enthusiasm but to lose motivation along the way. I’m glad God never does that but that he is committed to finishing his work in us!

    1. Yes, so easy to lose that motivation. We might get sick or tired or any number of things could happen to throw us off. I’m glad, too, that God never gives up on us. Blessings to you, Lesley!

  2. Thank you Gayl for this encouraging post. I am thankful that Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith. He will keep working on us, until He brings us home to be with for eternity. I hope you have a lovely day!

  3. Dear Gayl,
Oh this is so beautiful–I love all of your ideas for projects. And you are so right, that Jesus will help us ask the right questions and find help to finish what He has begun in us. He is our full completeness! Your picture on the lake is just stunning, and brings that beauty of the light of Jesus to my heart. Thank you so much for sharing this today. You are such an encouraging gift from the Lord. Hugs and Love to you! xoxo

    1. Dear Bettie, thank you! I’m glad the lake picture spoke to you. It’s from last year when we had those special 2 weeks in Maine. I’m glad we can encourage each other so much! Blessings, love and hugs to you! xoxo

  4. I hope you follow through on these projects you mentioned, Gayl. There is such delight God gives us when we see a project done for Him come to fruition! Keep at it, my friend!

    1. Beth, thank you so much for your encouragement! I know I will feel delight when I finally finish one of these projects. I need to put in the work required and wait for His timing, which is always the right time. Blessings to you!

  5. Currently working on my first poetry collection: MY MAINE, a seasonal haiku journey. Like you, I’ve been toying with the idea of postcards (my haiku and photos)… Blessings and love as you embark upon your projects. <w3 xo

  6. I understand much about incomplete projects as I have quite a few. In the quilting world, they’re called UFOs which stands for UnFinished Objects. I have quite a few Crafty WIPs (Work in Progress) and hope to return to them soon. It’s been a long time since I done anything other than photography. I long to return to both reading books and crafting; but, I have not due to a lot of reasons including the fact I’m taking it easy considering I’ve been depressed for so long. It’s my hope that I’m slowly learning how to manage my life and never crash again. I know God is with me and as long as I give Him control, he’ll guide my ways and thoughts. I just need to wait upon Him.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Lee Ann! My mother did a lot of quilting in her life, but I never really picked it up. I do love crocheting and cross stitch, though I haven’t done cross stitch in awhile.

It’s good that you’re taking it easy and slowly coming back to your projects. Yes, God will be with you and guide you. It’s hard to wait sometimes, but His timing is always best.

      Blessings to you!

Hi – It’s been awhile. Great post. Yes – unfinished projects and I guess we are unfinished too – but will be complete eventually.
    Blessings

  8. I have children’s books, found a great agent, she doesn’t handle children’s books. Si back to the drawing board, only I too need an illustrator. He makes it beautiful in His time. I think He is satisfied that I have been faithful to pray for others and to blog about His love, anything else, is just a blessing, and His healing touch in time of need is priceless.

    1. Oh, Rebecca, so hard to find an agent and then realize they don’t handle the books you have. But you are right. He makes it beautiful in His time and His timing is right. I agree that it’s a blessing to blog and encourage others in that way. And yes, His healing touch really is priceless. Blessings to you, dear friend!
