Story: Share as We Journey Through Life

Everyone has a story to tell, because we are all journeying through life. Our stories are made up of all that we have experienced – the good and the bad. When we share our stories we can find areas we have in common and areas where we are different. We have different perspectives, because we see from our unique vantage points.

Even though we experience some of the same struggles and wins, each of our stories will be unique.

Find Kindred Spirits

You may not think your story has anything worth sharing, but you would be wrong. When we share our experiences with others we not only find “kindred spirits” but are also able to encourage one another.

During the month of October, I want to try to participate in the Five Minute Friday free writes with the prompts given by Kate Motaung. By writing for only five minutes, I might be able to keep it up every day. Each post will have a short word of encouragement using either poetry, art journaling or a combination.

Today’s word prompt for the Five Minute Friday 31 Day Write is STORY.

Your Story is Important

I want you to realize that your story is important, because you are important. We are all made in the image of God and we have something to share with others.

As shown in the art journal page above, I encourage you to:

  • Search for your joy
  • Be sure of who you are
  • Always remember your dreams.

Genesis 1:27 (NIV)

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

  1. Happy to be following you during this 31 days of free writes. I too am joining Kate’s free writes; and also hope to speak encouragement to those on difficult journeys…or, on any life journey! Loved reading yours!!

    1. Thank you, Barbara. I’m going to try to follow along with a few. Yours sounds like it will be a good one and I will try to follow. We are away from home but will be back tomorrow. Blessings to you!

    1. Meg, thanks so much! Oh, I know we would enjoy each other’s company! Maybe one day we can make it happen. 🙂 Thanks for your sweet encouragement. Blessings to you! xoxo

  2. I’m so glad to be able to read your posts here this month, Gayl! I’m glad that God is giving you words and creativity to share! 🙂 Blessings to you on this journey. Love and Hugs dear friend! xoxo

    1. Thank you, Bettie, for your continuous encouragement. At first I wasn’t going to take part in the 31 days of writing, but the idea of small snippets of encouragement sounded like a good one. I will be praying for God’s leading in this endeavor. Blessings, love and hugs to you, my dear sister/poet/friend! xoxo

  3. I look forward to following along, Gayl. Love the collages in today’s post and thankful to have found such a kindred spirit in you to learn from your story and share my own story with 😊.

    1. Thank you so much, Anna. I, too, am thankful to have found a “kindred spirit” in you. So glad God brought us together so we can learn from and encourage each other. Blessings, love and hugs to you, my dear friend! xoxo

  4. Your post made me think of this Brene Brown quote “The bravest thing you’ll ever do is tell your story.” Oh how true!

    1. Yes, I think that’s true. Sometimes we hesitate, but when we share our stories with each other we are drawn closer. We realize we are not alone. Blessings to you, Tara! xo

  5. Gayl, I love how you tell your story via words and art journaling! These images and thoughts are so inspiring. I will try to follow along whenever I can. Like me, you are seeing the advantage of writing small soul snippets, and that brevity can be your friend in an exercise such as this! Praying for you to feel no pressure to perform and to enjoy sharing in a different way. Your words are always welcome, daily or otherwise, however they come. Blessings, love and cheering hugs! xoxo 💜

    1. Joy, thank you so much! I want to follow along with yours, too. I appreciate your prayers and I will pray the same for you. One of the reasons I was not going to do it at first was that I didn’t want to feel pressure, but you inspired me that just writing a little could be fun and still encourage people, too. Thanks so much for your love and friendship and prayers, dear sister/poet/friend. Blessings to you! xoxo

  6. Hi Gayl! Good for you to engaging in the Write 32 days challenge! I had also really hoped to participate in Write 31days this year, as I did it last year and really enjoyed it and learned so much through the process. But this year, due to a variety of circumstances I will not have the time or ability to commit to it. But I hope you enjoy it and I will certainly support you as you engage!

    1. Thank you so much for your encouragement, Anne! I wasn’t sure if I could do it, but I’m going to try. It will be good discipline for me to write for the five minutes, give or take a minute or two. 🙂 I definitely want it to be enjoyable and not feel like a burden. Because that would defeat the purpose of writing encouragement, right? 🙂 Blessings to you!

  7. Hi there! Visiting you from the 31 Day Challenge (#39). Loved your art journal page and your wise encouragement. Looking forward to reading/viewing more!

    1. Thanks for visiting, Neta, and for your encouragement! I’m glad you enjoyed it, and I hope I can keep it up. I will try and I will also visit yours. Blessings to you!

  8. I loved these important and uplifting points. I can’t wait to read your series. You are such a blessing to writers and Christian women everywhere.

  9. Lovely, Gayl. Kindred spirits. I have found some of those and they are so precious. Love your writing and your art and so grateful you share it in the Lord’s name and for His purposes!

  10. I look forward to following you and reading your posts this month. Today’s post was very encouraging… but you helped me even before I read the first post. You see, I did not know how to create a landing page, but after seeing yours, it clicked. Now I have a landing page for my 31 days of free writes too! Thank you for being so helpful, whether you knew it or not. 🙂 God bless you!
