AWESOME GOD
Every day I look outside and have an amazing view. Looking right through my window I see the sky, trees, foothills and more. It is a daily reminder that we have an awesome God who is worthy of praise and thanksgiving.
Awesome Works of the Creator
Mountains, sky, clouds, rain
Through my window I can see
Ever changing views
In the starlit sky
Lightning races jaggedly
Thunder shouts aloud
Sunshine wakes me up
Darkness offers time to sleep
Seasons come and go
Beauty can be found
In each miracle of life
Made by God’s own hand
Awesome power this
By our great and mighty God
Full of grace and truth
Pondering my place
In creation’s grand design
I give thanks to God

OPPORTUNITY FOR STILLNESS
When I sit outside on the porch, it gives me an opportunity to be quiet and still. My goal is to be outside for a little while each day. It’s a perfect place to listen, think, observe and pray. Sometimes I get too busy and forget, and the tension builds in my neck and shoulders. The time outside actually refreshes me and some of the tension subsides.
Stillness is good for us even though sometimes we avoid it.
At times we don’t want to be alone with our thoughts. Maybe something is bothering us, but we keep busy to avoid dealing with it. Or we are afraid of what we may find if we do some soul searching.

God is not afraid of anything in our hearts and lives. He is big enough to handle the greatest sorrows and burdens.
The more I put my trust in Him and lay down my burdens at His feet, the more peace I experience. But it’s all too easy to take up those burdens again. That’s why it’s important to take these times of silence and stillness. We need to remember the words of Jesus:
Matthew 11:28-29 (CSB)
Come to me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take up my yoke and learn from me, because I am lowly and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Dear Gayl,
Oh, thank you for sharing such sweet thoughts today, my Dear Friend. And for this to come on a day of enforced stillness myself, truly the Lord does see the desires in our hearts to be able to move again, to share again. He has HIS ways of stirring His own beauty up from the deep places of our hearts, and you are so right, we need to be stilled in order to see and hear what He will bring. These words are so full of HIS heart:
“Pondering my place
In creation’s grand design
I give thanks to God”
Thank you for your friendship and care. Blessings, love, and hugs to you! xoxo
God does see our needs and provides in so many ways, sometimes unexpectedly. I wasn’t going to write today, but it just came so naturally. I love how God works and uses each of us to encourage each other. I am blessed that you are my dear friend and sister! Blessings, love and hugs to you, my poet/sister/friend! xoxo
You do have a beautiful view from your house. I love the poem that the view inspired “Awesome Works of the Creator”! Blessings to you.
Thank you, Laurie. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem. Blessings to you!
Beautiful, Gayl! <3 Sharing…
Thank you so much, Bette. Blessings to you! xo
Thanks for sharing, Gayl. God help us be still and leave our burdens at His feet. Blessings to you!
Thanks for visiting, Boma. Yes, may God help us to lean on Him and be still. Blessings to you, too!
Love this! I miss the mountains!
Thanks, Tara! Blessings to you! xo
Amen! I spent time on my back porch every morning for several months (when the weather was warm enough at 4:30 in the morning). I think I still need time on the back porch—just during a warmer part of the day!
Wow, 4:30 in the morning is EARLY! Yes, spending time on the porch whenever we can get it is so relaxing and calming. Blessings to you!
Beautiful poetry, Gayl! You are very talented! And I’m like you! I need to pull away each day to spend time alone with God in order to refuel each day. But you have a much prettier setting than I have with my home. You are blessed, my friend! Pinning your 2nd poem!
Thank you so much, Beth, for your encouragement! Blessings to you!
Lovely, Gayl. Beautiful blue sky too.
Thanks so much, Rebecca. Blessings to you!
Beautiful! Reminds me of “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” – Psalm 19:1
Thank you, Julie. Yes, I love that verse! Blessings to you! Thanks for visiting.
