Just is the word prompt for #FiveMinuteFriday and Day 21 of #write28days. The idea is to write for five minutes when we hear the prompt. No need to edit or make it perfect, because it’s meant as a fun exercise.
Sometimes I begin to write, and the words come quickly. Other times I have a hard time thinking of anything at first.
My mind goes all over the place until I finally settle. Often, I take more than five minutes, but I don’t think anyone minds. Tonight’s word, like many words, has several meanings, and I chose one of the more simple definitions.
My writing has been on a more serious note lately. So tonight I decided to have some fun and write a simple poem.
I did not write it in five minutes, but it didn’t take very long. It’s pretty much a simple description of my day.
Just Another Day
Just another day in the
rolling waves of time
nothing significant or
out of the ordinary
Just another rain filled sky
sun came out a bit
only to turn back again
not ready to dry the earth
Just another day inside
resting and waiting
keeping busy writing words
napping cat curled on my lap
Just another rainy night
bedtime approaches
Hands poised above the keyboard
waiting for inspiration

Though my day was pretty ordinary, it was still a good day. There was time to rest, time to listen to a podcast and a writing seminar and time to chat with a friend. I enjoyed family time, ate some delicious homemade soup and even watched an episode of the show, Jeeves and Wooster. There was also time to look through old photographs which brought back lots of memories. I am truly blessed.
What about you? How was your day? I’d love to hear from you.

What a lovely poem, and I LOVE the cat. Puss with personality!
My day…well…
It seemed the night would never end,
but the dawn was worse.
I wished for something to forfend
the pain, but life’s perverse.
From dawn into bloody day
to stand and walk was hard
but I have to find a way
to play this final card.
I don’t know the whys,
and the wheretofores escape,
but don’t fit me for my size
in a funerary cape.
Seems my toe-tag death is filling
out, but I’ll still take some killing
Thank you, Andrew! Yes, our cat definitely has personality and a mind of his own. LOL Thanks for your poem. You continue to amaze me with your talent even when facing death. So thankful to have “met” you and Barb. May God be close and give you some sweet moments together!
I love it! So often we don’t have just another day to ponder, wander, and relax. What a blessing!
Thank you, Anita! It really is nice to “just” stop and think and realize how blessed we are even in the midst of troubles. Blessings to you! xo
“Just”… what a word. Just in time, just for laughs, just for fun… so many uses of the word. Thank you for giving me a chance to think of how many times I say “just”. 🙂 Today is a wonderful day full of God’s blessings.
Yes, so many uses of that little word. 🙂 It’s fun to think about how often we use it. 🙂 May you have a wonderful day knowing the peace of God with His many blessings! xo
The beauty of ordinary days. My fave.
Amen, Susan! Blessings! Have a great weekend! {{HUGS}}
Sounds like a lovely day. Ordinary can be good!
It was a lovely day and yes, ordinary can be very good. 🙂 Blessings to you!
Dear Gayl,
I love your photos, and lovely cat. And how sweet that she wants to curl up with you as you are writing. Those creatures can be such gifts, just like ordinary days can be gifts too! Blessings, love, & hugs Dear Friend! xo
Dear Bettie,
Thank you so much. Yes, our cat really seems to know when we don’t feel good, too. He was in my lap a lot when I felt bad. Ordinary days can really be lovely. Blessings, love and hugs right back to you dear sister! xoxo
I love ordinary days and that is pretty much my life now that I’m retired. It is a blessed life for sure! Love your poem, Cindy
Thanks so much, Cindy. I do love ordinary days, too. Blessings to you!
Not tired of rain, but tired of snow and bitter cold.
Oh, my, I’m sure you are tired of all that! Hope you get some relief soon. Blessings to you, Tara! xo
Oh, I so enjoyed this. Many of my days seem to be “just another day” but I am learning, more and more, to appreciate and even enjoy these days!
Dear Jennifer, I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Yes, those ordinary days can actually be some of our best days. Blessings to you!
Ah, the magic of the holy ordinary is entrancing to read about and experience! I love the photos and poem. Your cat is serenely lovely and your poem is gentle, sweet and restful. It sounds as if your day was a perfect mix of things to warm the heart, just as you offer here with your words. May you be blessed by more of these holy ordinary days to cherish. Love and hugs to you, dear Gayl! xoxo 💜
Joy, I’m so glad you enjoyed your visit here. Looks are deceiving with our cat. LOL Yes, he can be serenely love and sweet and cuddly, but he can also try our patience. He looks to sneak into the kitchen and jump on the counter looking for snacks. It seems like nothing works to keep him out. But, he is still sweet. I pray you also will be blessed with holy, ordinary days. Blessings and love and hugs to you, dear Joy! xoxo
