Treasures: Beauty and Peace on a Farm

In last Tuesday’s memoir post I wrote about the birth of our first child, Sara. This past week I spent some time at her place, Edgewild Community Farm, to help out while two of her kids were sick. There was plenty of time to get outside. I walked and looked for beauty to photograph, and I found so much. Treasures are all around if we can remember to slow our pace and look for them.

Doesn’t this swing look inviting?

Aren’t they adorable?

Flowers and Streams

Wild daisies are some of the best treasures found growing all over the farm. As you can see, this photo inspired a haiku.

This stream flows through the property and across the driveway. The old bridge was washed out, but you can see a part of the new one that will soon be ready .

More Haiku

Out of all the photos I chose two more to use as prompts for writing haiku. One is about the sunshine and the other an open gate in a field of flowers. I hope you enjoy them, and maybe you’ll be inspired to write one of your own.

Treasures on the Farm

Sun high in the sky

An orb of bright light shining

Through the well dressed trees

Daisies lift their heads

Yellow dots with fringe of white

Graceful, wild and free

Wildflowers surround

An opening gate that calls

Come through and explore

Maybe you’d like to respond by writing a haiku. Or maybe you have another way of expressing your thoughts and reactions. I’d love to hear from you!

Psalm 66:3-4 (NLT)

3 Say to God, “How awesome are your deeds!

Your enemies cringe before your mighty power.

4 Everything on earth will worship you;

they will sing your praises,

shouting your name in glorious songs.” Interlude
