Hidden with Christ in God: Strong, Safe, Secure

HIDDEN WITH CHRIST IN GOD

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:2-3)

Hidden is the word for Five Minute Friday this week. The above scripture came to mind, which then reminded me of the last part of this passage from John:

My sheep hear my voice, I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one will snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. I and the Father are one.

(John 10:27-30)

Both scriptures comfort me, knowing that I belong to Christ. Nothing can take me out of His hands. This made me think of the second verse from the hymn, “Like a River Glorious.”  It goes like this:

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.

Nothing can take away my peace and joy when I am hidden with Christ in God. Yes, there may be trials, sicknesses, verbal or physical attacks, or any number of unfortunate events. Yet none of these will ultimately crush me. Why? I abide in Christ, and He is my refuge.

This doesn’t mean I won’t ever have fear or lack courage, but it does mean that God will give me the strength I need to face whatever comes. I know that He is working out His will in my life through the good and the bad.

Enjoy this arrangement of “Like a River Glorious.”

  1. Oh Gayl, these Scriptures, song, and thoughts are just such a confirmation for me this week. My brother’s stepping into eternity has brought Heaven so close again! We are always together with our Lord, held so safely in His river of life. Thank you dear sister! ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Sweet Bettie, I’m so glad you were encouraged by the Scriptures, song and thoughts. May God continue to comfort you in your loss. Yes, we are always together in the Lord! Much love to you with many blessings, dear sister! xoxo

  2. This is our hope, isn’t it…
“This doesn’t mean I won’t ever have fear or lack courage, but it does mean that God will give me the strength I need to face whatever comes. I know that He is working out His will in my life through the good and the bad.”
Thank you for writing and sharing.

  3. Gayl: “This doesn’t mean I won’t ever have fear or lack courage, but it does mean that God will give me the strength I need to face whatever comes.” These words give me strength I need to keep on in the face of health issues my husband and I face. They give me strength to stand up for Jesus and His Word in the face of these horrific times in our world. Peace and blessings to you and yours.

    1. Cecelia, it really is comforting that God is with us and gives us strength. I pray that He gives you wisdom as you deal with health issues. And yes, in these terrible times, we need His strength. It’s a comfort to know that He is still in control. Blessings to you!

  4. Hidden —> “This doesn’t mean I won’t ever have fear or lack courage, but it does mean that God will give me the strength I need to face whatever comes.” And there is such a peace and comfort that comes from knowing this truth. I am so glad you shared your post!

  5. They hid me in the crew rest place
    on a Saudia ’47,
because they did not want to face
that sad and truly brutal leaven
of a war that had no end
exposed to weak and softer eyes
that saw Taliban as a friend
    and steadfastly ignored the cries
of the farmers in the way
    of a blind theocracy,
men who would not have their say,
and whose hope could only be
    rescue by the very best,
    mercenaries of the West.

  6. Gayl, I love the thought of being “hidden” in Christ. Just the concept brings feelings of safety and comfort. Thank you for this beautiful reminder today!
